about

Iconic New Zealand drum and bass act Concord Dawn is 20, and the original line up of Evan Short (Kiljoy) and Matt Harvey (Matty C) are celebrating on the eve their 20th anniversary tour with the release of the brand new EP '1999' They've also added a couple of new NZ tour dates as the anniversary tour edges closer to sold-out status.

Since forming in 1999, Concord Dawn quickly moved from being an underground act to an international music export, with their biggest track 'Morning Light' remaining one of the most memorable D&B tracks of the early 2000s.

"'1999' is about returning to drum and bass that is hypnotic and entrancing, music that draws you in and compels you to listen rather than shouting for your attention," says Evan.

"It draws on techno and trance influences of repetition and evolution, which hearkens back to the kind of stuff we made on the first few albums before we became perhaps a bit more “song” focused. When Matt was over in Rarotonga, NZ last year we talked about the nature of ostinato and repetition in music and how that was missing from newer drum and bass, and so we decided to make something along those lines."
